Soc media trolling mirrors other abuse

Annoying! Harrassment or free speech? Protect people. Protect women. Protect fairness and justice.

Bullies and trolls don’t need freedom to hurt people – they need prosecution. Our Canadian Charter prescribes  the balance of freedom and duty but finding our balance is a worldly toil. Corporations like Twitter or Bay Street need to step up too. There is no intellectual or ethical merit in letting people or businesses harm others online;however, sadly, self-regulation and morality always is wanting. It’s the human conundrum.

As Twitter CEO admits, institutions still suck. We ‘suck’ too. Our willingness and effort to protect each of us physically is as feable as our attempt to harness social media evil.

” . “We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform and we’ve sucked at it for years,…It’s no secret and the rest of the world talks about it every day. We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day.” -Costolo
