End of Men- Munk Debates

Fascinating topic, given what I see in schools these past few years but I shall not dare enter this fray… I’m not man enough!

OK! I have to chime in with some hot air of contempt despite being a MUNK fan. Are men obsolete? and not one man on the debate panel? Really? If it is humour, that is not your mandate.  If it’s debate fodder, who could rally up a contest with that resolution if they aren’t even in the building? It is, IN FACT, a genuine, legitimate question to be asking, as I see men(boys)  imploding or eroding left right and center… men are lost and our culture is standing by aloof still PC about feminism. Come on MUNK, you needed to find at least a 50/50 if you expected any kind of legitmate standard of discourse that the community could read, download- discuss- WTF!

The End of Men

Be it resolved, men are obsolete…

November 15, 2013

Since the beginning of human civilization, men have been the dominant sex. But now, for the first time, a host of indicators suggest that women are not only achieving equality with men but are fast emerging as the more successful sex of the species. Whether in education, employment, personal health or child rearing, statistics point to a rise in the status and power of women at home, in the workplace, and in traditional male bastions such as politics. But are men, and the age-old power structures associated with “maleness,” permanently in decline? Or do men still retain significant control over the workplace, the family and society at large, including women? In sum, where are the sexes headed in the 21st century?

To find out, the Munk Debates will move the motion: be it resolved men are obsolete…

If men insist on clinging to the one place we have an advantage (musculoskeletal strength) over women to establish dominance, yeah, we’re going to be obsolete in an information-based social order. But just as it was with buggy whip and cravat manufacturers, societal obsolescence is a choice. While women may out-communicate us from an early age, we have certain intellectual gifts to work with as long as we’re not too busy being ticked that our worthiness is no longer based on how far we can chuck a hay bale.

Agreed brother! I’s like to have seen men on their panel arguing that exact point or even yeah or neh! I work with teens and I often see amazingly gifted young men who manage fine yet they still express an anxiety and confusion about a culture that confuses them. I’m sure this has has always been the way with women but I believe boys are immersed in a pop culture that is oversupplied with hay bale chucking thugs and almost void of articulate sober positive models. Their schools are ever increasingly a feminine domain and this worries me. thx
